Clean and Inspect Your Boat

​A good start to your boat storage preparations, is to thoroughly clean and inspect your vessel inside and out. A mild soap and water solution or store bought boat cleaner works well to remove any dirt or residue left from your last outings. Empty the bilge, any water tanks, head, pipes, and seacocks, raising the bow (if possible) will help to accelerate drainage. Adding antifreeze to the bilge and water tanks will prevent freezing.

Winterize Your Boat's Motor

Winterizing your boat's engine is a very important step to preserve its longevity and avoiding any damage from storing in cold weather for long periods of time. Adding antifreeze to your motor and having the motor run to ensure the antifreeze circulates properly to help prevent damage from cold weather. Covering your motor with a weatherproof cover will also help protect against the elements, dust, and debris. Prepare the Fuel Tank

​Air that is left in your fuel tank expands and contracts during the winter months that can lead to moisture getting inside the tank. Fuel that contains ethanol can absorb the moisture and break down over time and leave you with a separated sludgy mess. Adding a fuel stabilizer prevents oxidation and build up caused by moisture so your boat is ready to start with no issues when its time to hit the water on your next boat adventure!

Cover and Secure Your Boat

​​Investing in a good boat cover is the best way to protect your vessel from the elements. A cover designed to resist water, weather and UV damage will go a long way to prevent the wear and tear that mother nature causes during extended storage during the off seasons. Also, properly securing your boat using storage moorings or regular tie-downs will prevent your boat from moving around during transporting or storage.
